Roula & Alex / Big Fat Greek Wedding in Seattle

This beautiful wedding took last year in June! I have known Alex for a couple of years as we worked together and met his then girlfriend, Roula, during some of our work outings. I was super stoked to be bale to shoot this wedding for the two of them. Roula is Greek and their wedding had a ton of Greek influences – starting with the ceremony at St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Seattle. It was such a beautiful ceremony and the space of this church is truly fantastic. From the gold gilded details to the beautiful mosaics in the windows. Growing up Catholic I’ve always had fondness for beautiful churches with colorful décor. The Greek Church in Seattle truly did not disappoint. As I have never been to a Greek wedding it was so awesome to see a marital ceremony there.

The boys were getting ready at a friend’s house in Queen Anne, and the girls at the one and only Fairmont Olympic Hotel in downtown Seattle. It is a beautiful hotel to get ready in and gorgeous backdrop for the getting ready photos. Something all brides to be should consider is where they will be getting ready – I usually spend a couple of hours with the girls capturing getting ready photos, make up and having a well lit room, ideally with natural light is always key.

Once the gals were all glammed up and ready to go, we all left for the first look location at the UW Arboretum. UW Arboretum is the perfect backdrop for photos - whether they are your wedding photos, or engagement photos or even family photos. The lush greenery and beautiful flowers that bloom (especially the cherry blossoms in spring) are a great backdrop for photos. Roula did a first look with her dad and it was such a sweet moment the two of them shared. It was followed by a first look with Alex which was just as sweet and so exciting!

After ceremony we all headed over to the reception site which was near Golden Garden at the Ballard Bay Club. Ballard Bay Club has beautiful views of the water from their whole venue and it was the perfect spot for an iconic Seattle Greek wedding. It is a very spacious venue, and it is practically located in Ballard, for a perfect Seattle wedding with water views. We were able to grab some sunset photos as well with the water-views in the background. Once reception started there was of course some awesome Greek music to dance to. DJ Rob Everett (who happens to be my husband and a DJ) was keeping the party going all evening long! You will be bale to see some Greek dance moves from the reception if you scroll down!

Opa!
